The CBSE board has made many changes this year. Though the plan was under construction for many years, the talks were prevalent around 2024 (beginning in January). The changes that have been brought with this dual exam pattern for class 10 and 12 are –

  1. New syllabus for each CBSE board class (class 10 and 12).

  2. CBSE board exam to be held twice a year (for class 10 only)

  3. Change in policies and schedule for CBSE board classes (class 10 and 12).

  4. Flexibility and the choice of participation for students to participate in CBSE board exams for class 10 and 12.

New Syllabus For Each CBSE board Class (Class 10 And 12)

The new syllabus for each CBSE board class 10 and 12 is available at the official website - cbse.gov.in. There is a pdf for the academic year 2025-2026 CBSE syllabus providing comprehensive guidelines on academic content and learning outcomes.

As notified earlier, the CBSE board will be conducting the board exam twice a year for class 10 and 12. For class 10 the board exams will be in February and April. This will provide all class 10 and 12 students with flexibility and opportunities to improve their scores.

The CBSE board has changed the concept from rote memorization to competency-based questions. This time, CBSE has made a revaluation process for the students to be assessed based on greater transparency and fairness.

Apart from this, there is skill education for class 12 and the subjects are Artificial Intelligence, Insurance, Finance, Retail, Hospitality and Tourism, etc. The CBSE board is expected to have the re-evaluation procedure based on on-screen marking (OSM) to be implemented soon.

Board Exam To Be Held Twice A Year

As expected or as calculated, there would be around 26.60 lakh students appearing for class 10 board exam and there would be 20 lakh students appearing for class 12 board exam. Every year, the CBSE board will conduct the two-time exam pattern for class 10 and 12 starting after February 15 each year or around mid-February. This exam pattern for CBSE board class 10 brings flexibility, reduces student stress, and improves the overall examination process. The CBSE board has released the draft for the same outlining key details of this reform.

Change In Policies And Schedule For Board Classes (Class 10 And 12)

There are a few changes to be applied for the next academic year 2025-2026. This includes the result policies. The new result policy says that the result will be available in DigiLocker after the first examination. If the students do not wish to participate in the next academic year admission, that is, class 11 based on this result, they can choose to proceed further with the next examination (for April month) for class 10. The candidates or students appearing for the class 10 board exam would receive all the passing documents and certificates only after the result of the second examination is declared.

Flexibility And The Choice Of Participation For Students To Participate In Board Exams For Class 10 And 12

The CBSE board exam for class 12 will be held only for one time once a year after 17th February or around mid-February. The new skill-based subjects are there for class 12 and the choices will be based on subjects like Land Transportation Associate, Physical Activity Trainer, Electronics and Hardware, and Design Thinking and Innovation. The CBSE board will also allow specific non-programmable and basic calculators for class 12 accountancy students starting from the academic year 2025-2026. The on-screen marking is also there for each board class 10 and 12. If the students have completely or satisfactorily passed the class 10 first board examination, their results will be available on Digilocker. Based on this examination result, they can have admissions for the next grade, that is, class 11. The complete and average result scores will be declared after the second examination and certifications will be distributed after that only.
